Philosophy

The name of this page is inspired by a beautiful school song which represents my thinking, or philosophy, very well. (German original and English translation)

Wieviel Farben hat die Welt?
Frag den Regenbogen,
der am hohen Himmelszelt
seine Bahn gezogen.
Was dein Auge sehen kann,
zeigt er dir so schön.
All die andern Farben kann,
nur dein Herz versteh’n,
kann nur dein Herz versteh’n.

Wieviel Farben hat die Welt?
Musst die Blumen fragen,
die auf Halmen ungezählt
ihre Blüten tragen.
Sieh die bunte Farbenpracht,
die im Licht erblüht,
und dann such in dunkler Nacht,
was dein Herz nur sieht,
such, was dein Herz nur sieht.

Wieviel Farben hat die Welt?
Frag die Edelsteine.
Mancher wurde viel zu schnell
Blind von ihrem Scheine.
Was ihr Funkeln und ihr Glanz
dir auch je verspricht,
was du mit dem Herzen siehst,
glänzt auch ohne Licht,
das glänzt auch ohne Licht.

(Rolf Zuckowski)
How many colours does the world have?
Ask the rainbow,
who has painted its lines on the wide sky.
What your eyes are able to see,
he shows you beautifully.
All the other colours
only your heart can understand,
only your heart can understand.
How many colours does the world have?
You must ask the flowers,
who carry their blossoms uncounted on stalks.
See the blaze of colours
that blossoms in the light!
And then seek in the dark night
what only your heart can see,
what only your heart can see.
How many colours does the world have?
Ask the gems.
Many where blinded much too fast
by their shining.
Whatever their sparkle and their brilliance
might ever promise you,
what you see with your heart
is sparkeling without light,
is sparkeling without light.
